canOur national network makes effective use of huge volumes of good quality food and other groceries, much of which is rescued and would otherwise go to waste. If you have large volumes of good quality food available for rescue, and you are within 30km of a FoodBank, we'd love to hear from you.

Organise a Food Drive

Even if you're not a food wholesaler, retailer or grower, you can can still help us source food by organising a regular food drive at your school, place of employment, church or social/sports club. A Food Drive involves collecting donations of cans, dry goods and other items (typically 75kg or more, or 200 cans or more) needed by your local FoodBank. Before embarking on a Food Drive, be sure to contact us to discuss current needed items, as well as items we cannot receive (such as opened or partly used cans or jars of food).

Donations of any of the following list of basic foodstuffs are especially appreciated. This list has been developed based on an agency Needs Analysis and with input from nutritionists at the University of Cape Town, University of Western Cape and University of Stellenbosch.

  • Starches: rice, maize meal, samp and pasta
  • Protein: dried beans, lentils, tinned fish, soya mince, milk powder and peanut butter
  • Fruit: fresh fruit, jam and canned fruit
  • Vegetables: fresh vegetables, canned mix vegetables
  • Other: cooking oil, salt, sugar
