FoodBank CT hosts Gala Dinner

E-mail Print
Premier Helen ZilleThe first Annual FoodBank Cape Town Gala Dinner was held on Saturday, the 24th of October 2009 at the picturesque Old Mutual House in Bishopscourt. The aim of this event was to raise funds for the FoodBank as well as to spread awareness of the FoodBank and what we do. The event was attended by 80 guests who bravely embraced the ominous rain clouds. Guests were greeted by a classical string trio, as well as sparkling wine, and were then led into the evening's proceedings.

The main address was done by the Premier of the Western Cape, Helen Zille, and was followed by an evening of good food, and energetic auctions. Many significant items were auctioned such as magnificent artworks from a foot and mouth painter, Sports memorabilia, which included a running shoe signed by Usain Bolt, and a selection of exquisite wines signed by the winemakers themselves.

The event was a great success, raising approximately R170 000. These funds will be used towards fighting hunger in the Cape metropole. A special thank you to Sanlam for their generous donation of R100 000. Thanks to everyone who was involved in organising and attending the event. Your support is greatly appreciated. Keep your eyes open for news of FoodBank Cape Towns' future events in 2010.

“I have witnessed so much change in the learners. Their attendance has improved so much. The teachers are impressed with the learners’ achievements in class, ever since they started receiving the sandwiches they concentrate better in class."
