NtombyWed_fullAs part of our Women's Day celebrations this month, we profile some of our women team members in the FoodBank Network. Ntomby Ngema is the Operations Manager of the newly-launched FoodBank Durban, and has made her career serving the community, starting out with working with street children, and now with FoodBank.

Ntomby was born in Gauteng and now lives in KwaZulu Natal were she has found home and recently got married to Africa Ngema.

Ntomby and Africa got engaged last year November, and were married this year on 30 May. He works for Committed Artists, a production company that belongs to his father, Mbongeni Ngema (who is also one of the creators of the award-winning musical, Sarafina).  Committed Artists were extremely generous in assisting us with a PA System for the launch, with her husband making an effort and giving his time to connect and run the system for us.

She started working to serve the community when she took a position with I Care, a foundation that focuses on developing the lives of street children. Over the years she moved to Feedback Food Redistribution as a distribution co-ordinator and later became a branch manager. Ntomby Ngema is part of the team that worked to form a FoodBank in Durban.

FoodBank Durban started preparing for the launch in June this year, and her role was to assist to co-ordinate the event, engaging the team and volunteers to take part. This experience taught her to respect and value the relationship she has with the FoodBank Durban team, they are a very small team and yet they were able to make it happen!

Ntomby has two sisters and two nieces, and truly adores her most amazing Mother, Ellen Mahlanga. She also forms part of leadership at Immanuel Christian Church in Somerset Park, Durban. Ntomby sees herself being a part of the FoodBank Durban team for many more years and is really enjoying what she does.
