You don't have to be a certain age nor live in South Africa to help FoodBank serve our nation's 14 million hungry. Young Lily Theriault of Bermuda raised US$140 (R1033) for FoodBank South Africa in lieu of gifts on the occasion of her fourth birthday party in September. Lily sets a fine example to us all of how You Can Help those less fortunate, no matter how little or far away you are.
Birthdays are a great time to practice and teach the African concept of ubuntu - that we are only a person through other people. Lily became a year older, but importantly, became a bigger person by making an action that touches 2 000 people in a single day: Through our corporate donors, the R 1 033 donated is matched by 15 litres of fuel from a logistics sponsor, and 650 kg of good quality food from our food donors, which in turn allows us to provide 2 000 quality meals to an orphanage, school, AIDS shelter or any of the over 900 organisations FoodBank helps.
