This winter Denny is donating to FoodBank a minimum of R200,000 worth of soup – the equivalent of 24,000 cans – as part of the Denny Soup2Give campaign. For every 400g can of Denny soup sold in May and June 2011, Denny is donating 50c worth of soup to FoodBank.
Sharon Reid, the sales and marketing manager of Denny Convenience Foods, says Denny has chosen to partner with FoodBank to demonstrate its commitment to fighting hunger in South Africa.
“We really believe in the work of FoodBank and want to encourage consumers to get behind FoodBank too. Simply by buying a can of Denny soup, you can make a real difference in the lives of those in greatest need, whilst stocking your own family’s pantry this winter. We’re calling on all South Africans to help us exceed our target of R200,000 worth of soup!”
In addition, Denny is running campaigns on KFM and Highveld Stereo where listeners can help to donate an additional R20,000 worth of Denny Soup to FoodBank.
Alan Gilbertson, the managing director of FoodBank SA, applauded Denny for its support. “Increasingly, leading brands are lending their support to leading causes not only because they have a social responsibility to do so, but because they know it’s good for business. Consumers want to support companies and brands that do good.”
On 26 May 2011 South Africa celebrated the first National Soup Day, and Denny is mobilising South Africans to support the day. The idea behind National Soup Day is to inspire the nation to enjoy a steaming bowl of soup at the onset of winter, but also to encourage consumers to do the right thing and stand together to help feed those in need during the coldest months of the year.
“To encourage support, we’re running competitions with cash prizes to the value of R20,000, including weekly lucky draws to win spot prizes of R100 shopping vouchers,” says Reid.
Denny makes a range of mouthwatering canned Chunky, Heat & Serve and Condensed soups in flavours including : Chicken Noodle; Italian Minestrone; Country Vegetable; Beefy Lentil; Spicy Bean & Beef; Cream of Mushroom; Cream of Tomato; Cream of Chicken; and Fresh Garden Pea.
