Our first five months have been hectic but encouraging. We've launched two foodbanks and aim to launch in Durban next month. Several more foodbanks are in the pipeline and we hope to launch 20 within 3 years.
This will only be possible if we secure adequate resources. Happily the national government has promised support. We'll need the initial funds they've promised soon to maintain our progress. We're also canvassing help from the people and companies of South Africa.
We cannot think of a more essential or cost effective use of funds than our approach to feeding people. Providing nutritious food directly promotes health and enables HIV sufferers to ingest anti-retrovirals. It enhances education by encouraging learners to attend and pay attention at school. It also reduces crime.
We -- and our "Bosses", the hungry of South Africa -- owe huge thanks to the many people and companies who have already supported us with their donations of food, funding and other assets or by volunteering. With your continued help we can go far!

FoodBank SA joins GFN
 We at FoodBank SA are proud to have been admitted to The Global Foodbanking Network (GFN). The criteria for membership are stringent and having our application accepted sends a strong message to our funders, food donors and other stakeholders that FoodBank SA conforms to international foodbank management standards.

FoodBank Johannesburg launches
Just-launched FoodBank Johannesburg already provides enough meals for 12 000 hungry people every day and aims to serve a multiple of this number within months.
The newest foodbank in the FoodBank South Africa network launched on 26 May and already distributes approximately 75 tonnes of food each month - enough to help feed needy people from more than 440 beneficiary agencies in the Johannesburg area.

Government signs agreement with FoodBank SA
An agreement that will help feed the poor in South Africa has been signed between the Departments of Social Development and Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, and representatives of FoodBank South Africa.

A Landmark Day
 On Monday 2 March 2009, following several months of feverish effort, our friends at FoodBank Cape Town opened their doors.
