NEWSLETTER November 2009

Dear Friends

16th November marks the United Nations (UN) sponsored International Day of Tolerance, highlighting the core values in the UN Charter: "to reaffirm faith in fundamental human rights, in the dignity and worth of the human person, ... and for these ends to tolerance and live together in peace with one another as good neighbours."

Being food secure is core to ensuring human dignity, and this month, in the spirit of tolerance and peace, we focus on two stories from "our boss", the hungry of South Africa: A Window in every Room and Azaad, a Place of Peace.

We also do a round up of World Food Day events in October and tell you what FoodBank is doing in the five provinces where we do not have an operational FoodBank yet. And lastly, for our British readers, we give details of our London Art Auction, an exciting fundraiser to be held on 14 November.

Our Progress So Far...

progressnov09
Each month you can track our progress in our goal of building 20 FoodBanks in 3 years in South Africa. Full plates show fully operational FoodBanks (currently 4), plates with just cutlery show FoodBanks in the incubation stage (currently 6) and the empty plates show FoodBanks yet to be established. With our current road trip through five provinces, look out in the coming months as we add to our incubating FoodBanks.
