JOHANNESBURG - Local heavy weights are catching on to being responsible corporate citizens and looking after the communities in which they operate - the driving force in business is no longer just be about making profit.
Global business leaders pledged support for Foodbank South Africa (FoodBank SA) at a function at the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE). Business heavy weights such as the former CEO of the Chicago Stock Exchange, former President of Orbis Investment Management Group, and Old Mutual's Executive Director of Marketing explained South Africa's official Foodbanking network to invited guests from the public and private sector, followed by a cocktail party.
The event was co-hosted by the Director of Government and International Affairs of the JSE Geoff Rothschild and William Mzimba, CEO of Accenture South Africa. It was timed to celebrate the launch of Foodbank Johannesburg (FoodBank Jo'burg) - the newest addition in a Section 21 network of community foodbanks launching throughout South Africa.Among the guests were William Mzimba(Accenture), Alan Gilbertson (FoodBank SA), Geoff Rothschild (JSE), Bob Forney (Global Foodbanking Network), Bishop Malusi, Mondli Mbhele (Department of Social Development), Muzi Nkala and Harold Edwards.
