The entire Global FoodBanking team (GFN) wishes to extend our congratulations to you and the hundreds of South Africans that have been our friends and partners in the development of FoodBank South Africa.

We understand the challenges that you are facing and the difficulty of your mission but are confident in the capacity of South Africans to provide food security to their neighbors in need.  Yes, there is much to do but what you have accomplished during these last two years is unmatched in the history of global food banking.

FoodBank South Africa joins The Global FoodBanking Network

GFN_logoFoodBank South Africa are proud to announce their membership of The Global Foodbanking Network (GFN). This was confirmed at the board meeting of GFN held last week. The criteria for membership are stringent and having our application accepted will certainly send a strong message to our funders, food donors and other stakeholders e.g. government, that Foodbank South Africa conforms to international food bank management standards. GFN is dedicated to alleviating hunger around the world. Foodbank SA is recognised as being the leading organisation fighting food insecurity and hunger in our country. As a fully fledged member we will benefit from the experience GFN have gained in developing food banks across the world.

FoodBank Homebase Sale raises R40 000

Homebase UKCAPE TOWN - For many years, Homebase UK has donated furniture from their summer catalogue shoot to be sold to raise funds for Feedback (which is now transformed into FoodBank South Africa). On 5th & 6th of June 2009, recently donated items went on sale at the The Cape Academy of Mathematics, Science & Technology in Cape Town. Despite real winter weather and visits to the venue by a troop of inquisitive baboons on Friday afternoon, almost all items were sold by lunch time on Saturday, with many people snapping up some incredible bargains.
