E-mail Print

Patrick_AndriesFoodBank South Africa's National General Manager, Patrick Andries, will be running from  Fish Hoek to Mowbray to raise funds for the hungry of South Africa.

BigWalkPatrick comments "I have undertaken a challenge called “Feet for Food” with the aim of raising funds by doing my first marathon (25km’s). This is part of the Discovery Big Walk and the 25km walk is from Fish Hoek to Mowbray. I am currently training really hard running with my two Boxers Lennox and Lola, trying to get fit and into shape for the marathon."

The 25km Big Walk starts in Fish Hoek at 8:30am on Sunday, 13 November 2011 and follows a picturesque seafront trail to Rhodes High School via Main Road, Lower Main and Station Road. The finish line is at St George's Grammar School in Mowbray. The Big Walk event had a record of 35 207 participants last year. To learn more about the event click here or visit www.bigwalk.co.za.

Post-Event Update - Wed, 16-Nov-2011 >>

"Dear Friend,

I am very pleased to inform you, that I have fought the good fight and completed the race. Waking up at 05:00am on Sunday morning, 13 November 2011, all I could hear was the heavy rain on my roof top. Every part of my body was craving to continuing cuddling under the blankets and not commence the endeavour of pursuing my goal of completing the 25km race from Fish Hoek to Mowbray. However the drive for raising money  to feed hungry mouths was stronger than the cold and heavy rain.

I had a slow start and was able to pick up my pace 10km into the 25km race. My time of completing the event was 3 hours 52 min, not very fast but I felt great when several hundred people completed the race after me.

Thank you for your kind support of my Feet for Food project where I created an opportunity to get fit, lose some weight and raise money for FoodBank South Africa.  For every kilometre that you have sponsored me, you have enabled FoodBank SA to feed even more than the 203 000 people that we currently feed.  For every R2 that I raised, we are able to provide one meal to a hungry person.

Thank you again for your amazing support….
