Do you think it is possible to feed some of the 11 million hungry South Africans by pedalling your bike? Well it is!
FoodBank South Africa have set out a new challenge called “Wheels for Meals” in which we ask individuals to fundraise to combat hunger through participation in organised cycling events. Our inaugural 'Wheels for Meals' challenge is next year's Cape Argus Pick ‘n Pay Cycle Tour, which takes place in Cape Town on Sunday, March 11, 2012. The tour is the world's largest individually timed cycle race, with over 35 000 cyclists tackling a 110km route around Cape Town -- a route that is as spectacular as it is gruelling. For more detailed race info visit www.cycletour.co.za
Cyclists undertaking a “Wheels for Meals” challenge raise funds through sponsorship. The more you raise, the more people we can feed! Specifically, for every R2 you can raise we can provide more than one meal.
The Cape Argus Pick ‘n Pay Cycle Tour entry fee is R700 per person through FoodBank, and we ask that you commit to a fundraising target of at least R5 000. General entries for this event are now closed which means the only way you can still enter is through FoodBank or another registered charity. We've a very limited number of spots available, so don't delay!

Or, if you are not up for the challenge, why not sponsor “CookedSisters” Emma and Jo? Jo tells us “Completing the Argus is a definite bucket list item but doing the Argus in the name of hunger is life-affirming!”. Emma adds "I have a HuGE LoVe for this country, so to be cycling for Foodbank SA and knowing I'm making a difference (even if it's a small one), will make it all the more worthwhile.".
