The FoodBank SA Network is South Africa's national foodbanking network. It comprises a growing series of foodbanks around South Africa augmented by a coordinating and supportive national offiice. The national office is a s21 not-for-profit company called FoodBank South Africa (or FoodBank SA, company number 2000/014314/08).
Founded in 2009, FoodBank SA is anchored by a tried and tested governance model including broad representation at national level -- from food producers, government, religious organisations, other NGOs and our Certified Member FoodBanks themselves.
The FoodBank South Africa Network was conceived following 18 months of preparatory research and discussion. We acknowledge with particular appreciation the commitment of the South Africa Forum for Food Security and the initiative of The Global FoodBanking Network. Numerous other people, including those from many NGOs around the country, made additional valuable contributions. We have benefitted in other ways, such as through donations of money and services from people around the country and beyond. To each of you, we extend a huge thank you on behalf of our ultimate "Boss", the hungry of South Africa. You've created an opportunity for us to make a positive impact on a lot of lives. We look forward to rising to the challenge with your continued support.
The creation of FoodBank SA was put into effect by transforming an existing s21 not-for-profit company, Feedback Food Redistribution. However, FoodBank South Africa is much more than simply Feedback under a different name. Click here to view our current national boards of members & directors. We are continually working to add to our governance to ensure that the end product is truly representative of the country as a whole.
